George Washington was the first President of the United States. He also served as Commander in Chief of the Continental Army in the American War of Independence and presided over the 1787 Congress that drafted and approved the United States Constitution.
Because of his central role in the founding of the United States, he is often referred to as the father of his country. George Washington is widely hailed as one of America’s most important Founding Fathers, but close inspection reveals that he is still contested by many today.
His picture is next to Henry Ford’s Model T or Elvis Presley’s white suit. Despite the fact that everyone knows who George Washington was, he is very problematic for historians as there are several different stories about his life that seem to contradict each other, so there are very few details about his life on which historians can agree.
George Washington was a great man who had many different accomplishments recognized around the world. Although some things in his life are still unknown to historians, he will always remember him for what he did in his lifetime. In fact, people even celebrate George Washington’s birthday as a national holiday because it was important to America.
His legacy lives on through every American who can choose and choose his rulers, a freedom he has fought hard for. While George Washington doesn’t have all the answers historians are looking for, it seems pretty certain that we couldn’t live without him because he achieved so much in his lifetime and these achievements made a lasting impact on America as a country.
