The rainy season is the time of year when it rains a lot. The length varies from region to region. During this time, cold fronts move across the subtropical high pressure cells working as a system for rain bearing winds to develop convectional clouds, which then grow vertically due to the presence of abundant moisture and the Coriolis force. As a result, most areas of the subcontinent experience heavy rainfall during this time of year. It is also known as the monsoon season.

 

During the monsoon day season, moderate to heavy rains fall in many regions of India and Bangladesh. The rains are caused by the southwest wind system, which is created due to the high air pressure over the northwest and northeast parts of the country. The wind system changes its orbit due to low pressure in the Bay of Bengal or a cyclonic circulation of the upper air over Madhya Pradesh, resulting in an increase in rainfall during this time of year.

In summer, land warms up faster than water and there is low pressure over land and high pressure over seas. This pressure differential causes the wind to blow from the sea to the land, known as the monsoon current. When this wind blows across the subcontinent, it is obstructed by Western Ghats and Eastern Himalayas, resulting in rainfall in the summer months. Monsoons are important to Indian agriculture.

After the monsoon season there is moderate to heavy rainfall over southern India. Winter precipitation is due to the presence of a low pressure trough formed along the west coast during this time of year, resulting in a heavy influx of moisture from the Arabian Sea into mainland India. Cyclone activity also occurs over the northern Bay of Bengal, bringing with it moderate rainfall during the winter season.

According to scientific research, it has been found that the duration of monsoon rains over India has increased due to the increase in surface air temperatures and the decrease in soil moisture. The maximum rise was observed over central India. However, due to certain climatic changes, the frequency of precipitation decreases in some areas.
